Club Members Convene in Kingston, MN to Watch Veteran Cars On New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run

2:38 pm in Uncategorized by tobin

John Elliott with his Maxwell in Kingston, MN during the 2010 New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run.

While the New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run is not a Mercedes-Benz Club sanctioned event, and I don’t even think there was a single Mercedes-Benz in the field, it is an event that a lot of club members seem to enjoy attending year after year. Mercedes-Benz Club member John Elliott participates in this very interesting auto event, open to all vehicles from 1908 or earlier, or any 1 or 2 cylinder vehicles up to 1915, the New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run is the largest event of its kind in the Country. Read all about the event and how it’s organized at their website.

The town of Kingston, MN rolls out the red carpet for event participants and spectators with several large tents, picnic tables and a lunch of pulled pork sandwiches and fresh corn on the cob, and I mean freah, it was picked the morning of the event and the farmer himself was preparing it for participants and spectators. When I pulled into the Kingston church parking lot I quickly spotted several Mercedes-Benz club members I recognized and for the next few hours kept bumping into other club friends.

I saw Dick and Verna Lind, Paul and Chris Bergquist, Bernice Hill, and Bruce Kelly a little later on in the afternoon. Access to the cars is amazing. They stop in the middle of the street, two by two, and you can just walk through them all, talking to the owners and drivers, many of whom come in from hundreds, even thousands of miles away to participate in the even.

Maybe next year Mercedes-Benz club members could get organized and drive in a convoy of Mercedes all together from one central point in the twin cities. Until then.. here are a few photos of some of the participating cars.

Vino in the Valley Rally a Success Last Weekend!

10:17 am in Uncategorized by tobin

The “Vino in the Valley Rally” was a lot of fun last weekend… 8 cars and 16 participants made for a fun run. There was a lot of talk about doing it again next year. The winding backroads along the Mississippi in Wisconsin are great fun, as are the little towns full of shops and restaurants. Have a look at the write up and photos of the event on my blog: http://daveknowscars.com/2010/08/10/twin-cities-section-mercedes-benz-club-of-america-vino-in-the-valley-rally-a-success/

24th Annual New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run – Saturday, August 14, 2010

5:46 pm in Uncategorized by Administrator

For more info visit: www.antiquecarrun.org

The New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run began in 1987 during New Brighton, Minnesota’s Centennial
celebration to reinforce the city’s namesake ties to Brighton, England. It is patterned after the prestigious London
to Brighton Veteran Car Run held annually in England. The English run celebrates the repeal of the “Red Flag” law
in 1896. The law banned the first motorized vehicles from using the road unless a man carrying a red flag walked
in front of the car. Over the years the 57 mile English Run has become one of the world’s largest spectator auto
events, where 2 million people gather to watch the antique autos travel from London to Brighton celebrating motor-
ing freedom.

The Minnesota Run is a 120 mile American version designed to showcase the beauty and endurance of very early
automobiles. It travels from small, rural New London, through rolling Minnesota countryside making its way to sub-
urban New Brighton, Minnesota. Volunteers plan activities for drivers, passengers, and spectators as they pass
through their communities. With the costumed drivers and gleaming vintage cars, this unique event promises “turn
of the century” charm for at least one day.
